theatre. :)

after being through some exposure to theatre and drama since primary school, i have learnt alot and have grown up alot. :)

there are pros and cons but the most important thign that i have most probably learnt so far is courage. in the life of theatre i have lead, i have learnt from two very very influential teachers, artistes, one, mr tang, the other, mr eugene lim. :)

through them, i have learnt many of the new "magic" in life. from learning to let go and be comfortable with my ownself, my own body, to learning really really cool things like stage combat and learning how alot anything in life can be related to theatre.

talk about stage stunts! i'm really into them i love it since i have been exposed to it! :D i have learnt so much, so much! the first stage combat i have learnt was from mr eugene - how to be bashed on the wall by people during a stage performance without getting injured in the head yet produce a "sound". i was extremely amused then cos i was the stuntman! x) then, i learnt how to be "dragged" by someone across the floor, being pulled by the hair yet not injure anyone, stuff like that, and then to mr tang, who had taught me the slaps.

through all these, i have learnt one thing. though these two teachers may have never known each other, they have shown very obvious signs of passion for theatre, which had influenced me greatly, and the basics taught sometimes were similar. take an example: learning to trust oneself. one of the "so-called" most fundamental thing an artiste should be able to do to go far. went through things like falling backwards on the person behind you (mr tang even went to the extent of telling my groupmates for drama sabbatical then to "flip me like an otah") those were really scary thigns yet fun. :)

the reason for me talking about stage combat suddenly is because of the recent incident i have encountered with stage combat during chilli crab. slapping, to me, didnt exactly seem to be a stage combat. in slapping, there are so many ways to do it, air slap, etc.

me and sherm decided that we would like to let her do a real slap on me. we tried many times, i was slapped many times, and on the actual day of the performance she slapped - rather hard - at well, the wrong place since we didnt practise too well yet, and i had a bad headache during third lang at my left back brain after that. x( hahah but i dont blame her at all. it's not her fault anyway hahah we didnt have enough practice and well, eiffel apparently was slapped by estee for cast two sec3 assembly and soon after she was having some ringing in her head she felt terrible and her father came to know about it and called up mr tang or something.

**anyway if eiffel or estee i reading this, dont worry! eiffel, after mr tang and said so much i'm sure you have understood, and i believe that both of you will soon be able to bond and trust each other so well, most probably by sec4 you guys would be able to do a perfect slap on each other. if all of us try hard enough!

yepp. if it was real slapping, there were some thigns taught by mr tang that we must do, like to have trust in oneself and others and courage to be slapped. :) trust and have confidence in oneself so that when the other party slaps, you have courage to not duck away because when you do, the other party might hit you ear and you might go deaf. :S

eiffel and estee didnt have a chance to learnt from tang abt it but i heard that sherm had taught them already. me, sherm, beng, pinghui, limyu and stephenie learnt one friday not too long ago the "art of slapping" x) throughout the whole session at the conference room it went slap, slap, slap and more slaps. in the end, mr tang made me tap my cheek with tap water so that it wouldnt swell up too much on just the left of the face. XP

courage is also needed in an actress to be able to have confidence to step on stage.

in theatre, you learn many things in life that people might not have experienced. also, we could actually learn to break into another perhaps totally different character, be it a male or female, and learn more about how the life of he or she might be, then slowly, before the show, live sleep study eat shit play the character. and after the show, break back to your ownself again, bringing back some learning points from the character performed, be it the lifestyle (might be good sometimes:))

this is few of the many dozens reasons why i like to do theatre, yet i do have things i fear so much about it. sometimes i feel as though i am such a retarded risk taker, yet i know all these will be worth it. :)

Add colours to your life!!
